Oruvail

ketoprofen

Oruvail is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medication that is used to relieve the inflammation, swelling, stiffness, and joint pain associated with rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis. Oruvail is used to relieve mild to moderate pain, as well as menstrual pain. In addition, Oruvail is used to treat the signs and symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis over the long term, not severe attacks that come on suddenly.

This medication is not effective for "fast" pain relief because it is slowly released into your bloodstream. Consult your doctor about what to do if you have acute pain.

What is Oruvail?

Oruvail is a popular medicine that is also widely known under the generic name of Ketoprofen. This medicine belongs to a wide class of medicines that are called NSAIDS (anti-inflammatory nonsteroidal medicines). This medicine is known for its ability to reduce the harmful hormones that are known to cause pain and inflammation in the organism. Therefore, this drug is regularly used by people who are suffering from arthritis and who are experiencing this medical condition’s symptoms (inflammation, pain). However, some patients are using this medicine in order to treat menstrual symptoms (pain).

Before taking Oruvail

Some medical conditions may interact with Oruvail. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the following apply to you:

  • if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding
  • if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal product, or dietary supplement
  • if you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances
  • if you have a history of kidney or liver disease, diabetes, or stomach or bowel problems (eg, bleeding, perforation, ulcers)
  • if you have a history of swelling or fluid buildup, asthma, growths in the nose (nasal polyps), or mouth inflammation
  • if you have high blood pressure, blood disorders (eg, low blood albumin levels), bleeding or clotting problems, heart problems (eg, heart failure), or blood vessel disease, or if you are at risk for any of these diseases
  • if you have poor health, dehydration or low fluid volume, or low blood sodium levels, you drink alcohol, or you have a history of alcohol abuse

How should I take Oruvail?

Take this medication by mouth usually once daily with a full glass of water (8 ounces or 240 milliliters), unless your doctor directs you otherwise. Do not lie down for at least 30 minutes after taking this drug.

Swallow this medication whole. Do not crush or chew the capsules; doing so can destroy the long action of the drug and may increase side effects. If stomach upset occurs while taking this medication, take it with food, milk, or an antacid.

It may take up to 2-4 weeks, taken regularly, before the full benefits of this drug take effect. Since Oruvail is usually taken in when it is needed a missed dose of this medicine is unlikely. However, if you are following a treatment with this product and you miss a dose of Ketoprofen you should ask your doctor for instructions. If your symptoms do not improve or if they become worse, check with your doctor.

Oruvail side effects

Frequent side effects from Oruvail may include: Diarrhea, dreams, fluid retention, gas, headache, inability to sleep, indigestion, nausea, nervousness, abdominal pain, changes in kidney function and constipation.

Less frequent or rare side effects from Oruvail may include: Asthma, belching, blood in the urine, bloody or black stools, change in taste, chills, confusion, congestive heart failure, coughing up blood, conjunctivitis (pinkeye), depression, difficult or labored breathing, dizziness, dry mouth, eye pain, facial swelling due to fluid retention.

Precautions

If you have kidney or liver disease, this drug should be used with caution. If you are taking Oruvail for an extended period of time, your doctor will check your blood for anemia. Oruvail can increase water retention. Use with caution if you have heart disease or high blood pressure.

Oruvail is not recommended in children as it has not been adequately studied in younger patients. Ketoprofen is not habit forming. NSAIDs should be discontinued prior to elective surgery because of a mild tendency to interfere with blood clotting. Ketoprofen is best discontinued at least two days in advance of the procedure.

Drug interactions

While you are following a treatment with Oruvail you should avoid taking the following medicines: cyclosporin (Neoral, Gengraf, Sandimmune); probenecid (Benemid); lithium (Lithobid, Eskalith); aspirin or any other NSAID; methotrexate (Trexall, Rheumatrex); anti-platelet medicines like dipyridamole (Persantine), clopidogrel (Plavix) ticlopidine (Ticlid); blood thinners like warfarin (Coumadin); steroids (prednisone).

Oruvail is generally used with caution in patients taking blood thinning medications (anticoagulants), such as warfarin, because of an increased risk of bleeding. Patients taking cyclosporine can develop kidney toxicity. Probenecid, used to reduce elevated uric acid levels, can cause ketoprofen blood levels to elevate. Simultaneous use is therefore avoided.

Preganacy

Oruvail may cause harm to the fetus. Do not use it during the last 3 months of pregnancy. If you think you may be pregnant, contact your doctor. You will need to discuss the benefits and risks of using Oruvail while you are pregnant. It is not known if Oruvail is found in breast milk. Do not breast-feed while taking Oruvail.

Overdose

Little is known of overdose with Oruvail, but any medication taken in excess can have serious consequences. If you suspect an overdose of Oruvail, seek medical attention immediately. Possible symptoms of Oruvail overdose may include: Convulsions, drowsiness, high blood pressure, kidney failure, low blood pressure, nausea, sluggishness, stomach and intestinal bleeding, stomach pain, vomiting, breathing difficulty and coma.
